Our Expert Review
vanEE is the quiet workhorse of HRV manufacturing. Owned by Venmar (one of North America's largest residential ventilation companies), vanEE units have been heating and cooling Canadian homes for 30+ years with extremely low failure rates. The aluminum core and well-tuned defrost cycle handle Long Island's coldest snaps without ice buildup, and pricing is competitive with Lifebreath while offering similar performance. We recommend vanEE for HRV-first applications — where winter heat recovery is the primary goal and summer humidity recovery is handled separately by AC and dehumidification.
Pros
- Excellent HRV efficiency for the price
- Aluminum core stands up to harsh winters
- Strong defrost cycle programming
- Easy filter access
- Good contractor support in northeast US
- Reliable & long-lived
Cons
- Lower MERV filter standard
- ERV models less efficient than HRV
- Limited smart-home integration
- Industrial appearance
