    The problem

This Wyandanch home ran on a New Yorker oil-fired boiler with a Beckett burner. It fed the home's zoned hot-water heating and an indirect-fired water heater, all switched from a three-zone relay, so any new boiler had to fit the piping and controls the house already relied on. After an in-home estimate visit, the homeowner approved a cast-iron boiler replacement.

    Our solution

We removed the old boiler and set a new Weil-McLain WGO oil-fired hot-water boiler in the same basement corner, then mounted a new Carlin oil burner on it. A new galvanized flue connector with a barometric draft control was run into the existing flue opening, and a new expansion tank was added. The near-boiler piping was rebuilt in black iron with an air vent and relief valve. We wired the boiler control, ran new wiring from the home's three-zone switching relay, and tied the boiler back into the zone circulators and the existing indirect water heater. The job finished with fill and purge, combustion testing and commissioning.

    The result

A new Weil-McLain oil boiler with a Carlin burner now sits in the same footprint as the old one. It serves the same heating zones and the same indirect water heater, which stayed in service. The installation carries a 1-year labor warranty on workmanship.
