    Heat pump rebates

$4,000 standard · higher rates for eligible homes

A heat pump moves heat instead of burning fuel. The same system can heat your home in winter and cool it in summer. Central ducted and multi-zone ductless designs can serve the whole home, but the rebate depends on what the installation actually replaces—not simply the brand or number of outdoor units.

    Heat pump water heater rebates

Up to $1,200 · eligible equipment

A heat pump water heater draws warmth from the air around it to heat a storage tank. It is a water-heating upgrade—not a whole-home heating system. Its location, air volume, electrical supply and condensate drainage matter as much as the model you choose.

    Weatherization assistance

    Separate NYSERDA EmPower+ assistance

Weatherization reduces heat escaping through the building envelope. Air sealing addresses drafts and leakage; insulation slows heat transfer. These improvements can make rooms more comfortable and reduce the heating load used to size a new heat pump. They are not simply an extra HVAC coupon.

    Explore weatherization assistance

    Home energy assessments

    No-cost NYSERDA assessment pathways

A home energy assessment looks at the building as a system: insulation, air leakage, heating, cooling and other energy uses. It can help distinguish an equipment problem from a building-envelope problem and establish a practical order for improvements. It is not the same as an HVAC repair diagnostic or a promise of a rebate.

    Explore home energy assessments

Weatherization and assessment programs use their own approved providers; these are not Home+ insulation or audit services. Separate assistance is not added to your equipment rebate total.

Every PSEG Long Island rebate for 2026

PSEG Long Island pays these rebates through its Home Comfort program for homes with PSEG Long Island electric service: all of Nassau County, all of Suffolk County and the Rockaways. The amount depends on the system, the home, household income and, for some homes, the address.

    Who qualifies

A home gets the whole-house heat pump rebate when all of these are true:

    • The home has PSEG Long Island electric service and is a 1-4 family home.
    • The heat pump system heats the whole house. Central ducted or multi-zone ductless both count.
    • A PSEG Long Island participating contractor installs it and applies for the rebate.
    • A heating load calculation for the home is part of the application.
    • If the old furnace or boiler stays as backup, integrated controls run the heat pump first.

    Ducted or ductless: both qualify

PSEG Long Island cares that the heat pump heats the whole house, not which kind of system does it. In Nassau, Suffolk and the Rockaways that usually means one of two set-ups.

Homes with central AC or a furnace usually have ducts a central heat pump can use. Homes heated by a boiler with radiators or baseboard usually go ductless, with units in each area of the house.

    Central ducted heat pump

For homes with ductwork, usually from a furnace or central AC. The heat pump uses the same ducts for heat and cooling. If the ducts are old or undersized, that shows up in the load calculation.

    Multi-zone ductless

For homes with radiators, baseboard or no ducts. Wall or ceiling units in each area connect to one or more outdoor units. It qualifies when every part of the house is heated, not one or two rooms.

What doesn't get a PSEG rebate

A mini-split for one or two rooms, such as an addition, attic or sunroom, does not qualify. The same equipment does qualify when it is part of a system that heats the whole house.

There is no utility rebate right now for a new gas furnace, gas boiler or central AC on Long Island. The federal 25C and 25D tax credits also ended after December 31, 2025. The PSEG Long Island heat pump rebate is the largest incentive left for most Long Island homes.

Higher rates for moderate and low incomes

PSEG Long Island pays $5,000 when household income is under the moderate limit and $7,500 when it is under the low limit. Homes in a state Disadvantaged Community get at least $5,000. Disadvantaged Community status is set by census tract, so we confirm it from the street address, not the ZIP.

The 2026 limits for Nassau and Suffolk, by the number of people in the home:

People in the home Low income: up to Moderate income: up to
    1 $69,263 $92,350
    2 $79,163 $105,550
    3 $89,063 $118,750
    4 $98,925 $131,900
    5 $106,875 $142,500
    6 $114,788 $153,050
    7 $122,700 $163,600
    8 $130,613 $174,150

Heat pump water heater rebate in Long Island

PSEG Long Island also pays up to $1,200 for an ENERGY STAR heat pump water heater installed by a participating contractor. It is a separate rebate from the heat pump for the house, so a home can get both.

A heat pump water heater pulls heat from the air around it, so it needs some room and works best in a basement or garage. We check the space at the estimate. More on the water heater installation page.

What a heat pump costs after the rebate

A central ducted heat pump on Long Island usually runs $8,900 to $26,000 before rebates, depending on the size of the home, the ductwork and the equipment. At the standard $4,000 rate that is about $4,900 to $22,000 after the rebate, and less at the income-qualified rates.

These are ranges, not quotes. Your estimate is free and shows the price with the rebate taken into account. You can also spread the rest over equal monthly payments with Home+ financing.

    When to start

PSEG Long Island's 2026 program covers systems installed by December 31, 2026. PSEG can change its rates for the new year, so the calculator always shows the rate in effect on the day you use it.

Heat pumps work through a Long Island winter, so there is no need to wait for spring. Many homeowners switch when an old boiler or furnace starts needing repairs, and keep it as backup on integrated controls for the first winter.

    Common questions

How much is the PSEG Long Island heat pump rebate in 2026?

$4,000 for a heat pump that heats the whole house in a 1-4 family home. It is $5,000 for moderate household incomes or homes in a state Disadvantaged Community, and $7,500 for low household incomes. Heat pump water heaters get up to $1,200.

Do I need a participating contractor?

Yes. PSEG Long Island pays the heat pump rebate only when a participating contractor installs the system and applies for it. Home+ is a PSEG Long Island participating contractor and files the application for you.

Do ductless mini-splits qualify for the PSEG rebate?

Yes, when the system heats the whole house. A multi-zone ductless system that heats every room qualifies like a central ducted heat pump. A mini-split for one or two rooms does not get the rebate.

Can I keep my oil or gas boiler as backup?

Yes. PSEG Long Island allows the old furnace or boiler to stay as backup when integrated controls run the heat pump first. The rebate rate is the same.

How is household income checked for the higher rates?

PSEG Long Island asks for proof of household income. The limits depend on how many people live in the home: for a family of four the moderate limit is $131,900 and the low limit is $98,925. The full table is on our 2026 income limits page.

Is there a PSEG Long Island rebate for a new gas furnace or central AC?

No. There is no utility rebate right now for a new gas furnace, gas boiler or central AC on Long Island. A heat pump that heats and cools the whole house does qualify.

Do homes in the Rockaways get PSEG Long Island rebates?

Yes. The Rockaways are in Queens, but PSEG Long Island supplies their electricity, so the PSEG Long Island rates apply there.

Can I still get the federal heat pump tax credit?

No. Federal 25C is unavailable for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, and 25D for expenditures made after that date. The PSEG Long Island rebate is separate and still available.
