The problem
This Albertson home's ductless system stopped cooling in late May, and we came out on a service call to diagnose it. The outdoor unit was a Daikin 4-zone heat pump built in 2016. It ran on R-410A refrigerant and sat on cinder blocks next to the steps. After that visit, the homeowners chose to replace the whole system rather than repair it.
Our solution
We took out the old outdoor unit and disconnected its line sets at the wall. A new Daikin 4MXM36AVJU9 went in the same spot. It's a 36,000 BTU, 4-zone inverter heat pump rated 20 SEER2 that runs on R-32 refrigerant, and it now sits on a new equipment pad instead of cinder blocks. New insulated refrigerant line sets run to the new outdoor unit, and we added a surge protector to help protect the compressor, control board and fan motors from power spikes. Indoors, we installed new Daikin FTXV-series wall units. Before mounting, the new wall units had their refrigerant lines and drain wrapped together and their wiring connected at the terminal block. A 4-zone installation kit supplied the materials for the indoor units.
The result
The home now has a new, matched Daikin 4-zone ductless heat pump system on R-32 refrigerant, and each zone can be set to its own temperature. The outdoor unit sits on a proper pad with new insulated line sets, and there are new wall units inside, so the house is set up for reliable heating and cooling room by room.
