    The problem

During an estimate visit, our team documented a Lennox Pulse gas furnace tucked into a narrow basement bay. The homeowner chose to replace the furnace and an existing central air conditioner together, as one project.

    Our solution

Indoors, we removed the Lennox Pulse and set a Trane S9X2 gas furnace in the same spot: 100,000 BTU, two-stage, 96% AFUE. Because it is a condensing furnace, it needs its own intake and exhaust venting and a condensate drain. The installation included new gray intake and exhaust vent connections, a PVC condensate drain assembly, a combustion kit, a gas flex connector, an electrical whip and a new filter, all fitted into a tight space. Outside, the existing air conditioner was replaced with a Trane 3.5-ton single-stage air conditioner that uses R-454B refrigerant. It went in with our central AC install kit, which covers the copper line set, condenser pad, brazing, refrigerant, drain pan, electrical whip and disconnect.

    The result

This system now runs on Trane equipment for both heating and cooling: a two-stage, 96% AFUE gas furnace in the basement and a 3.5-ton R-454B air conditioner outside. The vent piping is neatly routed in a narrow bay, and the new outdoor unit sits square on its pad with a clean disconnect and whip. The installation carries a 2-year labor warranty. The project also included a Home+ Comfort Membership, which comes with two tune-ups a year, one for heating and one for cooling.
