Ductless Mini-Split Maintenance & Cleaning

Mini-split heads pull room air through a small coil and barrel fan, and both collect dust and growth fast. Pricing covers the outdoor unit and the first head, then each extra head.

    Ductless mini-split: Standard $299 + $75/extra head · Premium $449 + $159/extra head

    Mini-Split Tune-Up: Standard vs. Premium

Standard is the full tune-up with every required reading for your system — on gas and oil that includes carbon monoxide and combustion analysis. Premium adds real deep-clean work, extra readings and a photo report.

    Why mini-splits need regular cleaning

Every indoor head of a ductless mini-split pulls room air through a fine filter screen, a compact coil and a long barrel-shaped blower wheel, then drains the moisture it removes through a small pan and line. There is no duct system to catch dust first, so everything in the room ends up on those parts. Over time the coil loads up, the blower wheel picks up a dark film, and the drain pan can grow mold or slime.

The result is weaker airflow, higher energy use, water dripping from the head, and sometimes a musty smell when the unit starts. Regular maintenance keeps the heads clean and the outdoor unit moving heat efficiently in both heating and cooling seasons.

    Cleaning versus a full service

A lot of mini-split cleaning ends at the filters. Our Standard visit washes the filter screens, checks and wipes the coil and blower wheel, clears the drain, and tests the outdoor unit, refrigerant charge and controls. Premium adds an in-place wash of each head under a protective bib: the coil, barrel fan and drain pan are washed out, the drain is flushed, and an anti-microbial treatment is applied.

If you see black spots on the blower wheel through the louvers, notice a smell, or the system has never had a deep clean, Premium is the right first visit. After that, many homes can alternate.

How pricing works for multiple heads

Pricing covers the outdoor unit and the first indoor head, with a set price for each additional head, so a single-zone system and a five-zone system are both priced up front. The full per-head prices are in the table above and in the first question below. If several outdoor units serve different parts of the house, each is priced as its own system.

What you can do between visits

Pop the front panel and rinse the filter screens every two to four weeks during heavy use, letting them dry before reinstalling. Keep furniture and curtains away from the head so air can circulate, and keep the outdoor unit clear of snow, leaves and shrubs. Do not spray cleaners into the coil or blower wheel; household products can damage the coating and leave residue that attracts more dirt.

When to call for repair instead

Water dripping from a head, ice on the indoor coil, error codes or blinking lights, a head that runs but does not heat or cool, or an outdoor unit that will not start are repair calls. We can diagnose those on a service visit. If you are planning to add zones or replace an older system, see mini-split installation and our best mini-split brands guide.
